As important components of all arithmetic units, different adder topologies suitable for low power applications are examined and the optimization results are summarized in the graph shown below.

     Results imply that Ripple Carry Adder doesn't provide further energy savings comparing to carry-skip structures, only runs slower. Variable Block Adder has significant delay improvement with small energy overhead.
